Professor Dr. Haider Awfi Ahmed, Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Basra, chaired the preparatory committee for the central ceremony held by the University of Basra to commemorate its 62nd anniversary.

The University of Basra organized a central ceremony to mark its 62nd anniversary at the University Presidency building, attended by the presidents of private and public universities in Basra Governorate and members of the University Council.

During his opening remarks, University President Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kadhim Al-Asadi stated: "The tangible progress the university is witnessing today is the fruit of a conscious academic vision and sincere efforts aimed at raising the level of university performance. The most recent of these initiatives was the launch of the 'Scientific Research Platform' and the 'Researcher's Oasis,' which have had a significant impact on organizing scientific output and providing a modern digital environment that sets researchers on the path to scientific excellence."

He added: "The university has continued its openness to international cooperation through scientific visits to Chinese universities, which resulted in the signing of (15) cooperation and twinning agreements, a step that enhances the university's standing and presence on the global stage." He emphasized that this urban development was accompanied by a comprehensive modernization of the university's facilities, including the construction and upgrading of classrooms and laboratories, the renovation of the university's administration building, and the maintenance of electrical substations. Attention was also given to essential services such as the establishment of reverse osmosis (RO) water purification plants for dormitory students and the development of cultural centers to create a comprehensive university environment.

The ceremony concluded with the distribution of gifts and certificates of appreciation to distinguished faculty and staff members in recognition of their academic excellence and their efforts during the past year in completing their assigned tasks with the required speed and accuracy.
