The voice of academics rises from Basra: Widespread condemnation of the American-Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
A group of professors, staff, and students from the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Basra expressed their strong condemnation of the aggression launched by the United States and the Israeli entity against the Islamic Republic of Iran, which resulted in the martyrdom of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Husseini al-Khamenei (may God sanctify his soul), along with a number of other leaders and innocent victims.
In a statement, the professors affirmed that this aggression constitutes a flagrant violation of international laws and norms and threatens security and stability in the region. They emphasized that targeting national and scientific leaders is an attempt to undermine the will of free peoples and break their resolve in defending their sovereignty and rights.
The statement indicated that the martyrdom of the leaders represents a great loss for the Islamic nation, especially for Supreme Leader Khamenei. However, their blood will remain a beacon of steadfastness and resilience in the face of hegemonic and aggressive projects. The statement affirmed their solidarity with the Muslim people of Iran during these difficult times.
The professors called upon the international community and humanitarian organizations to uphold their moral and legal responsibilities by condemning these attacks and halting the escalation policies that threaten the region's security and stability.
They also emphasized the importance of establishing the values of peace and justice among nations, affirming that the voice of academics will continue to support all positions that call for respect for the sovereignty of states and the right of peoples to live in security and dignity.
In this regard, the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Haider Awfi Ahmed, affirmed:
That the aggression to which the Islamic Republic of Iran is being subjected by the United States of America and the Israeli entity constitutes a blatant violation of national sovereignty and a clear breach of all international laws and norms. He pointed out that the targeting and martyrdom of the leaders reveals the extent of the dangerous escalation the region is witnessing.
His Excellency added that the martyrdom of the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei (may God sanctify his soul), and other leaders will only strengthen the resolve of free peoples to uphold their rights and defend their sovereignty. He emphasized that such attacks will not diminish the will of the Iranian people, who are accustomed to facing challenges with patience and steadfastness.
He also stated that the academic community takes a clear ethical and humanitarian stance in rejecting wars and attacks that target the security and stability of nations. He called upon the international community to bear its legal and humanitarian responsibilities in condemning the arrogant aggression represented by the Zionist-American alliance.
The Dean concluded his statement by affirming that academic institutions will remain a free voice defending human values and justice, and will reject all forms of aggression that threaten the security and stability of the region.
