The University of Basrah Council Holds its Ninth Session for the 2025-2026 Academic Year and Approves the Promotion of 19 Faculty Members to the Rank of Professor

The University of Basrah Council held its ninth (morning) session for the 2025-2026 academic year, chaired by the University President, Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kadhim Al-Asadi, and attended by the Vice Presidents for Scientific and Administrative Affairs, the Secretary of the Council, and its members.

The session began with a review of the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Discussions focused on the outputs of the "Opinion Board" for 2026. The meeting's agenda also included a discussion of the "Guide to the Policy for the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools in Scientific Research."

The council also discussed a number of vital issues concerning undergraduate students and reviewed the mechanisms for implementing them. This included discussing requests for tuition fee reductions for students in the parallel (private) government education program at certain colleges, as well as matters of interest to postgraduate students.

In a first for this year, the council approved the promotion of 19 faculty members from various colleges within the university to the rank of Professor, after they fulfilled all the rigorous academic and research requirements.

In closing, the university president called for concerted efforts to improve the academic and administrative standing of the university, emphasizing the importance of supporting scientific research and activating the role of consulting offices to serve Basra Governorate and Iraqi society.
