Under the slogan “Sports and Digital Transformation… Scientific Visions for Building a Sustainable Future,” the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Basra, in cooperation with the Colleges of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the Universities of Maysan, Dhi Qar, Wasit, and Muthanna, held from December 23-24, 2025, witnessed the signing of a joint scientific cooperation agreement with its counterparts at the participating universities.
The agreement included several important areas, including cooperation in holding scientific conferences, cultural activities, and scientific missions, in addition to sports and technical aspects, which contribute to enhancing academic integration and the exchange of expertise among educational institutions.
Professor Dr. Haider Awfi Ahmed, Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Basra, emphasized that this agreement represents an important strategic step towards unifying scientific efforts among the Colleges of Physical Education and Sports Sciences in the universities of southern Iraq. He pointed out that joint cooperation will contribute to advancing scientific research, supporting digital transformation in the sports field, and opening new horizons for academic and institutional development, serving both students and researchers. This initiative is the first of its kind in Iraq, with five universities from the south jointly organizing a large-scale international scientific conference. The conference saw the participation of over 300 researchers from across Iraq, from north to south, as well as researchers from 13 Arab countries, clearly demonstrating the advanced scientific standing that Iraqi faculties of physical education and sports science have attained.
The conference organizers expressed their best wishes for the participants' continued success, emphasizing that these scientific partnerships represent a strategic step towards developing scientific research and building a sustainable academic future.
