The Parliamentary Youth and Sports Committee visits the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at Basra University

The Youth and Sports Committee, headed by Deputy Abbas Aliwi, Chairman of the Committee, and in the presence of Deputy Dyar Barwari, Deputy Chairman of the Committee, and Representative Arzo Mahmoud, the Committee's Rapporteur, on Thursday 28/1/2021, visited the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at Basra University.
The Dean of the College, Dr. Sabah Mahdi Karim, the gentlemen in his office at the college’s headquarters, in the presence of a number of college professors.
MP Abbas Aliwi explained that the committee pays great attention to completing sports projects in Basra Governorate, headed by the Sports City and the Mina Club Stadium.
MP Aliwi confirmed that the committee cooperates greatly with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to end the file of lagging sports facilities, noting that the Youth and Sports Committee has met with the Parliamentary Finance Committee to discuss the possibility of transferring the budget in 2021 so that the ministry can complete the sports infrastructure.
Aliwi stated that the Youth and Sports Committee has passed the two laws of the Olympic Committee and Sports Federations, stressing that they are going to vote on the proposed law on sports clubs in the upcoming sessions of the House of Representatives.
Representative Dyar Barwari asked about the reasons that led to the suspension of the University Sports Union, stressing the committee’s keenness to restore the work of this union, which contributes to the advancement of the sporting reality in Iraq.
For his part, the Dean of the College clarified that there are shining in many aspects in the sports aspect that must be highlighted, expressing his regret for the lack of infrastructure in Basra Governorate that possesses youth resources and energies, indicating that Iraq aspires to host Gulf 25 in the governorate, warning that the lack of infrastructure in Basra may negatively affect this legitimate ambition.
For his part, the Dean affirmed that the College Board and with the approval of the University of Basra Council approved the opening of the Training and Administrative Rehabilitation Department in the College, noting the importance of the University Sports Federation’s work due to what constitutes an important factor in the development of sport and the graduation of champions athletes.
The committee affirmed its full support for all opinions and proposals that contribute to the development of the sports sector, noting that the doors of the committee are open to all athletes.
The committee, accompanied by the Dean of the College, conducted a field tour to see the departments and halls of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, stressing that it would seek to complete the college’s Olympic pool by approaching the Finance Committee in order to provide a financial allocation for it.
At the end of the visit, the Dean honored the members of the Committee with the College Shield in appreciation of their efforts in serving Iraqi sports.
