The President of the University of Basra, Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kadhim, honored the university's futsal team, presenting the Shield of Creativity and Excellence to the Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences and General Supervisor of University Sports Teams, Professor Dr. Haider Awfi Ahmed. This came on the occasion of the team's first-place win in the Iraqi Universities Championship for the 2024/2025 academic year. The honoring ceremony took place during a special ceremony held in the Imam Ali (PBUH) Hall at the Bab al-Zubair Colleges Complex, coinciding with the university's celebration of its founding anniversary. The honoring also included the administrative staff, represented by the Director of the Student Activities Department, Dr. Ghassan Habib, the technical staff, led by coach Professor Dr. Abdul Ali Jaafar and Professor Dr. Ahmed Abdul Amir, and all administrators and players, in appreciation of their great efforts to achieve this important sporting achievement. In his speech on this occasion, the Dean, Professor Dr. Haider Awfi Ahmed, stressed that this victory reflects the level of hard work and dedication shown by the team, pointing out that the college will continue its support for sports activities and nurturing student talents, as they play a fundamental role in raising the name of the university high in national forums. He added that celebrating this achievement during the anniversary of the university’s founding is a message of pride and appreciation for the students’ abilities and potential, calling for redoubling efforts to maintain these successes and repeat them in the future. At the end of the ceremony, the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Haider Awfi Ahmed, presented appreciation shields to the University President and his academic and administrative assistants for their valuable and great efforts in supporting sports activities at the university.
